Overview


Application specific modular extenders with various video, audio, Ethernet, USB and I/O cards

Lightware Visual Engineering proudly introduces the MODEX family, the worlds best and fastest modular extenders supporting the AV and Broadcast industrys formats. MODEX (Modular Extender) offers a full range of modular transmitters and receivers extending digital and analog video and audio, USB KVM, Ethernet and control signals over a single fiber or CAT5/6/7 cable. Customizing the MODEX is really simple:

Step1: Choose a fiber or CATx media core
Step2: Select one video & audio module
Step3: Select two interface modules
Step4: Your MODEX is ready to use

 

The technology built into the MODEX family breaks many standard limitations allowing 30 meters DVI cable on input, Advanced EDID Management, Pixel Accurate Reclocking, LAN, RS-232, RS-422 and USB control, fiber cable powering and more.

Available configurations:
 

  • Half RU MODEX front and rear view

 

 

The half unit extender allows one video & audio module and two interface modules (each can be the same or different type).

The front panel has an additional 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port (with full functionality, but can be used as control interface) and USB KVM connectors (transmitter has one USB-B for the computer; receiver has two USB-A connectors for the keyboard and mouse). Keyboard and mouse functions are emulated by the extender and no USB enumeration occurs while operator switching. A computer is not aware when a keyboard or mouse has been changed.

Half RU MODEX may either be a video transmitter or a receiver depending on the installed video & audio module.

Media Core

MODEX includes a family of long distance transmitters and receivers for sending and receiving video, audio, RS-232 and IR control, USB KVM and Ethernet over a single CATx or single fiber cable. Media core, the heart of the MODEX determines the signal transportation type and size:

 

 

  • OPTS Media Core

 

The OPTS extenders (MODEX-OPTS series) give optical transmission over a single fiber. Equipped with a Neutrik OpticalCON or industrial grade connector (both can be used with LC fiber cable), the OPTS provides a reliable optical connection. MODEX-OPTS is powered by an internal power supply.

 

 

  • TPS Media Core / under construction

 

The TPS extenders (MODEX-TPS series) provide full functional transmission over a CAT5/6/7 twisted pair cable, equipped with Neutrik EtherCON connector that ensures a reliable RJ45 connection even in rental/staging environments. Common RJ45 connectors can also be used with Ethercon. MODEX-TPS is powered by an external power supply.

Video & Audio modules 

Various video formats are supported: video could be DisplayPort 1.1, DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 1.4 with 3D, HDMI 2.0, Dual-Link DVI, SDI, 3G-SDI and analog VGA, Interlaced Composite Video. No matter, what kind of video format you have, your pixels will be extended by MODEX. The video format conversion is automatic if the two ends have different modules. The video & audio modules are also capable of transmitting audio. The source may be external S/PDIF, RCA, XLR or the embedded sound present in different video signals. Embedding and extracting audio or transmitting in both directions simultaneously is also supported.

Lightwares innovative MODEX architecture allows each transmitter and receiver to support a wide variety of auxiliary signal types through the interface modules. All auxiliary signal types can be simultaneously transmitted at full bandwidth over fiber or twisted pair reducing the need for additional extenders and cabling. Both MODEX core modules have auxiliary interface slots (half RU has two module slots). It can be any control signal, audio or Ethernet:

 

  • Digital and analog audio input module
